Hotels Kuala Lumpur / Padang - Talk with Kandui Update

Hi all,

Here are the hotels that we are staying at while in KUL and PDG: They look Safe and Luxurious

Kuala Lumpur : Renaissance Kuala Lumpur (Marriott)
We will be staying here on on the night of the 5th and possibly the 6th as well. We may move to a hotel closer to the airport for the night of the sixth since this hotel is 45min away from the terminal and we have a early flight on the morning of the 7th. The cost of this hotel is $100 per night with taxes per room and if we choose to we can sleep 4 of us per room so $25 each. Chris and I have booked two rooms at this rate, so if any of you want your own room or don't want to share a bed then let us know and we can let you know where to make your reservation.

Padang : The Ambacang Hotel
We will be staying here on both sides of our trip to and from the island so on the nights of the 7th and the 19th we will be sleeping here. Kandui Resort has been kind enough to book this hotel for us at their discounted rate of $50 per night. In this case I requested 4 rooms, since each room is set up with two beds. This will give everyone their own bed and space on the nights that we will need it most. We will also want to take advantage of the air conditioning as well.

Updates on My talk with Kandui

Photos: We have a surf guide that is specifically assigned to our group. The surf guide will be meeting with us every night and discussing our game plan for the next day with us and will help determine where we surf based off of forecasted conditions. The group has the option of sticking together or splitting up based off of what type of waves we fell like surfing or what sleep schedule we may be on. The surf guide is there to take pictures of us out on location and will be happy to use our cameras or the resort's. The resort has a nice digital slr for this very purpose. It was encouraged for us to "tip" the surf guide extra for his photo taking... That being said though, Kandui and the remaining Donkey's would really love for Marc Kozai to stop being a pussy and come along with us...

Crowds: I had a very candid conversation with Anthony M. of Kandui regarding the crowds or lack there of at the breaks. After much of what I had been reading I expected for some of our sessions to be in somewhat crowded conditions. The long and short of the conversation is that in worst case conditions (small swell, bad North winds, limited surf break options) including our group of 8 we might see a crowd of ten others in the line up, so a total of 18ish. This as Anthony put it would be a rare scenario for the swell rich time of year we are going there.. In most cases we will find the breaks uncrowded or empty, and if it does get congested we can always hop in the boat and move over to another spot. He more or less guaranteed that "we should easily catch 500-600 waves per person during our stay". Sounds good to me..
